I De Partiendo
mollem divide pondere concubitor modo lectum
stragula ne capias a miserabile me
Meter: Elegiac Couplet
Translation: Bedfellow, merely separate the soft bed with a weight, lest you take the sheets from miserable me!
II Clavis
singularis clavis humi patescit
postmodum nulla ostiola aut fenestras!
futili utor quomodonamque clave?
sepio in arca.
Meter: Sapphic Stanzas
Translation: a lone key on the ground opens no little doors or windows presently! How then do I use this worthless key? I lock it in a box.
III Es
Formam conspicio ambulans in urbe;
Es! Te moestiter atque noscito non.
Meter: Hendecasyllables
Translation: Walking in the city I catch sight of a figure; It is you! Yet sadly I do not recognize you.
IV Aurora
iterum unica secubo tenebris
somnum demoriens, amice, dego.
quando, sol, venies? resuscita me!
lux, accende! perure! mitte flammas!
in muris oriens meis coloras.
astreans mihi, saltitas, renides.
Meter: Hendecasyllables
Translation: Again, only I sleep alone in the darkness, longing for sleep much, friend, I wait. When, sun, will you come? Reawaken me! Light, set on fire! Burn up! Send flames! Rising on my walls, you paint. Gleaming (like a star) for me, you dance, you shine.
